How To Plan A Trip To Sri Lanka From Germany

Planning a trip to a tropical getaway from Germany? A trip to Sri Lanka from Germany is not a destination to be checked off a box. So, if you’re looking for a warm getaway and a beach vacation, then Sri Lanka is the place to go. Many German travellers have noticed how this island offers a perfect mix of everything. You can relax in a culture without feeling overwhelmed.

It’s not just about the destination. This is a place where the pace of life is a little slower. The sun rises a little later in the morning. You don’t feel the need to rush to the next destination.

A lot of our visitors arrive with a very planned itinerary. And then, somewhere in the middle of the trip, they stop trying to let go of it. This is because slowing down is the best way to experience the peace of this island.

Choosing the Right Time to Visit

Sri Lanka is one of those places you can visit almost any time.

This is where the planning comes in. Just one piece of advice if you’re coming from Germany and trying to find a sun destination. The southern and western coasts between December and April is the best time.

That’s when the weather is just right for a beach vacation. You really don’t need to do a lot of planning in a place like this. You wake up, go outside, and the day just unfolds on its own.

Flights and Arrival

Most flights from Germany will land at Bandaranaike International Airport. This is generally after a stop in a location like Doha or Dubai.

It is a long journey, no way around that. It is also true that many of the people we have as guests say the same thing. Once you feel the warmth of the air and the greenery of the area, the travel part of the trip disappears quickly.

If you can, give yourself a little buffer on the first day. You don’t need any tight plans, just arrive and enjoy.

Visa and Entry Requirements

You will need an Electronic Travel Authorization before arriving. This can sound official but the process isn’t very hard. It’s actually very simple and done online.

Most people manage to get it approved within a day or two. This is something you don’t have to worry about as it goes smoothly for many.

Planning Your Itinerary

Sri Lanka is a small country on the map, and it feels like you can do it all. But when you come here, then only you will understand how diverse it is. It is worth seeing places like Kandy, Ella, and Yala. You can go from one place to the next and still not spend a lot. However, it is easy to make it a checklist of all the things you need to see. There are many guests who regret rushing and wish they had slowed down a bit. This is how you truly enjoy some of the best moments here are the ones you didn’t plan at all. You can pick a few places and leave some space in your plans.

Choosing Where to Stay

After a long trip from Germany, a space to relax is what is needed. A space to relax means a place where one can exhale a bit.

We’ve tried to create that kind of space at Cloud Nine Lanka Resort. This is not a resort with a formal and rushed atmosphere. This is a calm and easy place.

Some of the things our guests tend to enjoy:

  • A quiet setting with nature all around
  • Beaches close enough to reach without effort
  • Simple and fresh food that feels just right after a long journey
  • Conversations that do not feel rushed or formal

Mostly, we find ourselves helping our guests with the development of their plans as they go along. We do not simply provide them with a plan from the start.

Getting Around and Budget

Getting around in Sri Lanka is not as confusing as it may seem. If you want everything to go smoothly, then hiring private drivers is the way to go. Taking the train takes a bit longer but the view will stay with you for a while. Tuk tuks are a part of the scene here and are great for short trips.

Budget wise, most travellers from Germany find Sri Lanka to be a bit reasonable. If you want a comfortable experience, then somewhere between 50 and 100 euros a day is enough. All of this is possible as you don’t need to think too much about every expense.

Final thoughts

If there’s one thing we’ve noticed, it’s this. It’s actually true that the best trips to Sri Lanka are not the most perfectly planned ones.

They are the ones where you leave a bit of space. This is where you slow down.

At Cloud Nine Lanka Resort, we try to give you that space. Just a place where you can arrive and settle in.
